This unique specimen was discovered by our team members Alister and Alison on 07 April 2025, and has been meticulously cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison. The fossil originates from the Westbury Formation, part of the Penarth Group, and dates to the Upper Triassic Period, specifically the Rhaetian Stage (~208–201 million years ago). The fossil-rich Aust Cliff site is internationally recognised for its preservation of Late Triassic vertebrate remains, including fish, early marine reptiles, and other jawed vertebrates. This block features a fragmentary but clearly defined jaw section, which may derive from a marine reptile (such as a placodont or early ichthyosaur) or from a predatory fish like Saurichthys. It showcases distinct bone structure, and depending on preservation, may exhibit tooth sockets or partial dentition.
